Here is the link.
It can be found on the roadside around here, so I wonder if anyone has ever tried.

QooQ
I have 3questions. as following:
ReplyDelete1. You mentioned that you have never seen it in Japan, but is it possible to purchase it online shop or something from Japan?
2. You wrote that the fruit turns purple, is this due to anthocyanin metabolism?
3.What does it taste and smell like?
Hi Taga, thank you for your question.
ReplyDelete1. Yes, I've tried looking for it in online shops, but haven't found it. I heard that several Indonesian shops sell it, such as in Sariraya, Aichi but you have to order it first.
2. The leunca's color change to purple may be caused by the anthocyanin content. Anthocyanin is a natural pigment that is responsible for giving purple color to various types of plants, including purple sweet potatoes. Several research journals state that purple leunca contains anthocyanins, and other types of flavonoids such as tannin, quercetin and kaempferol, etc.
3. As for the taste of ripe fruit, leunca tastes fresh, and smells perhaps like cherry tomatoes. But leunca has a slightly bitter taste because of the tannin content.
Thank you
Thank you for your slides. I want to try it.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know what the texture of raw leunca is like.
And what vegetables in Japan are similar in taste and texture to leunca?
Hi Oshima, Thank you for your question, the texture of raw leuca is hard and the taste is bitter, this is because raw leunca still contains a lot of tannin.
ReplyDeleteHmm, I'm not quite sure, I'm also new to Japan, and maybe I only know the vegetables that are common here. maybe the texture is similar with cherry tomatoes, but the taste is fresh and a bit bitter. Thank you
Hi Tita. Thank you for nice introducing us to the wild food in Indonesia.
ReplyDeleteI have never tried and seen Leunca.
Leunca looks hard, so I was surprised to know that it is eaten as a fresh vegetable.
Are they used as adornment? In your New year party, Nasi tumpeng has a banana leaves as adornment.
Hello, Ohmoto. Thank you for your query. It may appear hard, but when ripe, leunca has a texture similar to cherry tomatoes, and when eaten, it is juicy yet slightly bitter, which is beneficial to health.
DeleteThis is not commonly used as a decoration, such as banana leaves on tumpeng rice; instead, it is eaten as a fresh vegetable. However, it could be an interesting concept to use it as decoration; let us try it someday.
So is it sold in the supermarkets in your country? Or is it more common to collect from the wild?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your question sensei.
DeleteYes sensei, this is commonly sold in supermarkets or traditional markets in Indonesia, but many people also cultivate it in their yards because it is very easy to grow.

ReplyDeleteHi Watanabe, thanks for the question.
Deletethe taste is different when it is cooked, maybe because spices and other ingredients are added,
Actually I like both, but I prefer the raw one, because it still tastes original :)
Hmm, insomnia, I didn't realize it, because I didn't feel like I had any sleep disorders, but the most common thing, especially from my family, was that my grandmother used leunca to treat knee pain due to gout and it got better after eating leunca.

DeleteMy pleasure :)
DeleteThank you Tita for an interesting presentation.
ReplyDeleteI had never seen or heard of "Leunca", so I found the presentation very interesting.
I did some research and found out that "Leunca" is poisonous (but I don't think there is any plant without poison). Is there anything I should be careful when eating it?
Hi Keitaro, according to what I've read, this plant includes various harmful chemical compounds such as atropine and solanine at certain levels; the content is rather high, particularly in unripe fruit with the following characteristics: green colour, hard fruit texture, and non-shiny fruit skin.
ReplyDeleteAs a result, it is strongly recommended to consume ripe leunca fruit in limit. Thank you for asking.
