In last week there was a public holiday called Makar Sankranti, Pongal. It seems to be like the winter solstice in Japan, but it also seems to be the birth day of some god, so I'm not sure. . .


Today, I would like to write about Indian sweets again. On that holiday, I ate an Indian sweet called gajar ka halwa.


 It is made by boiling grated carrots with water, milk, sugar and cardamom. In Japan, there aren't many sweets that use carrots as the main ingredient, so I was surprised to see sweets that made of kind of vegetables. I didn't feel any carrot taste or aroma, but it was so sweet and delicious like other Indian sweets.


In India, it is often used as a way to make children who hate carrots eat carrots.

Are there any sweets made with vegetables in your country?
