Hello, everyone..

How have you been?

Previously, I introduced rawon as black soup meat as a traditional Indonesian dish. Do you still remember? i hope so 😊

Today, I'm going to point you to REOG PONOROGO, a popular Indonesian cultural art.

Here it is..

It is reog performance

Reog comes from the word "Angreyok" related to encouraging soldiers' enthusiasm to fight, yes fighterrr soul..

And Ponorogo is the city where the art of reog originates. Ponorogo is in the eastern region of the island of Java.

Did you know that Reog Ponorogo has received recognition as a World Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Yippi..

And what's interesting about reog?

Reog is one of the regional cultures in Indonesia which is still very strong with mystical things and strong mysticism. But don't be afraid, this is not dangerous. If you see it live, you will definitely be enchanted as if by magic because the dance is so strong, firm with matching music.

The reog dance in the open arena functions as people's entertainment, the main dancer is a person with a lion's head decorated with peacock feathers, plus several dancers wearing masks and riding lumping horses, they usually dance and shake the feathers on their heads. The values to be conveyed through the reog dance are noble character as symbolized by the peacock, courage to defend the truth (tiger), patriotism/heroism (jathil dance), optimism (pujangganong dance), and leadership (kelana sewandana dance).

This is the reog team from our campus, Universitas Brawijaya (UB), which yesterday succeeded in becoming 1st national champion in Indonesia in an arts competition in Indonesia.

In my current path, I see Reog as the spirit of a warrior studying at school, fighting against laziness, battling against challenges, and trying to keep learning and processing in order to become a better person 😊.
