t f B! P L

I am Takashi MIYAKE, the class director.

Thank you for your prompt responses to my email. I have received replies from all students registered for the class. The total will be 10 students.

This online class will run from now until February. During this term, you are expected to post messages to our class at least once a week (on average). Of course, more contributions (more posts) are encouraged! Please feel free to share your thoughts and messages. I believe your contributions will foster lively discussions in this class.

To address global agricultural challenges, a comprehensive understanding of the various food cultures of different countries is essential, given that the majority of agricultural products are consumed as part of our diets. In this class, you will discuss your "Foods and Culture" based on your own eating experiences, and we will engage in written discussions and comments with one another. I am confident that we will all gain valuable insights into different cultures from each other.

As your initial post, please introduce yourself with the following details:

1. Your name (and nickname), place of origin, and anything that characterizes you.

2. Your academic field, your doctoral study theme, and the most interesting aspect of your work at the moment (please describe it in simple terms).

3. Any food that you had recently and were impressed.

I would appreciate receiving your introductory post by November 18. Please click “New Post” or “+新しい投稿” to prepare your post.

You are welcome to respond to someone else's introduction or ask them questions using the “Comment” function. However, please be aware that I will be out of the office next week for a field research trip, so my responses to each post may be delayed.

Once everyone has introduced themselves, I will introduce several discussion topics. We will have conversations about these topics, and then we will collectively decide on the most suitable topic for this year. You will be responsible for preparing a presentation slide file for the selected topic at a later stage.

P.S. I will talk a bit about #3 here. Last weekend, I, with my wife, went to visit Hakuun-za, an old theater, to see ji-kabuki (https://visitgifu.com/see-do/ji-kabuki/) located in Gero City. On the way home, we went to the sushi-go-round restaurant where we long wanted to visit in Gero. In spite that it located far from the sea, sushi they served was very nice; fresh and large toppings with small sushi rice.

Below is what we saw at the theater last week.
